What does “Darshan” mean?

“Darshan” is a Sanskrit term for meeting or experiencing
an avatar, saint, guide, teacher or a sacred place for the
purpose of absorbing the divine energy being offered
(Sanskrit is a classical language of India used now mostly
within a spiritual or religious context).

What is Darshan with Mother Meera?

Darshan with Mother Meera is very simple yet very powerful. People gather at an appointed
|time and one at a time come up to Mother Meera and “pranam” or kneel and bow down so
she can touch their heads. When she is done touching their head, usually for just a few
moments, the person sits back on their heels and looks into Mother Meera’s eyes. When
Mother Meera closes her eyes the person stands up and goes to their seat while the next
person approaches. People who can't kneel, sit in a chair in front of Mother. Those in
wheelchairs may also approach Mother. The entire Darshan is completed in silence and
usually takes a couple of hours.

Why doesn’t Mother Meera talk and why isn’t there an opportunity to talk to her?

All spiritual traditions hold that the most powerful transmission of divine energy and divine
experience comes when the mind is quiet. To quote Mother Meera, “For the mind to flower
it must move beyond what it knows…People are too active and rarely sit quietly. In silence
one can receive more because all one’s activities become concentrated at one point…
God is silent. Everything comes out of silence. In silence more work can be done. The true
experience of bliss is without words.”

What work is the Mother doing in Darshan?

Mother Meera tells us: “On the back of the human being is a white line running up from toes
to the head. In fact, two lines start from the toes, rise along the legs, join at the base of the
spine and then become a single line reaching the top of the head. This line is thinner than a
hair and has some knots in it here and there which divine personalities help to undo. It is very
delicate work and great care has to be taken to undo the knots, as there is danger for your life
if the thread is broken. When I hold your head I am untying these knots. I am also removing
other kinds of obstacles to your sadhana (spiritual practice and self-discipline).”

When Mother Meera is finished with pranam, we look into her eyes in silence and this is what
she is doing: “I am looking into every corner of your being. I am looking at everything within you
to see where I can help, where I can give healing and power. At the same time, I am giving Light
to every part of your being, I am opening every part of yourself to Light. When you are open you
will feel and see this clearly.”

What do I need to do in Darshan?

Mother’s advice is as follows: “The energy or Light which you receive in Darshan acts in its own
way. It works in its own way. There is nothing for you to do. With a silent mind and good
concentration (you can) pray to the Divine to open you. If you can do this you will feel the
consequences of what I am giving you. You won’t receive more but you will feel it more.”

What does Darshan cost?

Darshan is freely given to anyone who wishes to receive it. However, because the Mother visits
so many places and seats are limited you must register in advance.
